I’d Rather Lose You Than My Mind

This song is in my top 5 hardest songs to sing as it spans almost 3 octaves.
— RIELL

The song tells the story of reaching a breaking point in a toxic relationship, where I finally choose self-love over someone who drives me to the brink. It acts as a sister song to "Redemption," which explored the consequences of choosing the other person over myself. In contrast, “I’d Rather Lose You Than My Mind” offers a do-over, showing what happens when self-love takes priority. This is the fourth song of the Past EP, and it introduces anger into the narrative, marking the beginning of my journey towards self-prioritization.

About the song

Lyrics

Six feet underground, for a while now
And we’re still caving in
Stole air from my lungs, came back for my blood
Some things can’t be fixed

You know I did my best
I held out, now I’m black and blue
I drove my fist through my mind trying to fight for you
Cause I don’t quit but it’s you, you will always choose
It’s you, you will always choose

I’d rather lose you than my mind
I’d rather leave than leave myself behind
I’m not an option if you can’t decide
I’d rather lose you than my mind
When I touch you I give up ground
When I’m loving you I cheat myself
Looking for you until I can’t be found
Why do I do this to myself?
I’d rather lose you than my mind

Leaving worse for wear, don’t know if you care
You seemto be just fine
If I stayed I’d let you win, carry all your sins
You would suck me dry

You know I did my best
I held out, now I’m black and blue
I drove my fist through my mind trying to fight for you
Cause I don’t quit but it’s you, you will always choose
It’s you, you will always choose

I’d rather lose you than my mind
I’d rather leave than leave myself behind
I’m not an option if you can’t decide
I’d rather lose you then my mind
When I touch you I give up ground
When I’m loving you I cheat myself
Looking for you until I can’t be found
Why do I do this to myself?
I’d rather lose you than my mind
